Created in 1688 by Portuguese authorities to tax goods from the Amazon, it is now the largest open-air market in Latin America.

Catedral da Sé

Founded in 1917, this is one of the largest cathedrals in Brazil, dedicated to Our Lady of Grace.

Forte do Presépio

Built in 1616, this fortress was the original military structure that founded the city of Belém.

Estação das Docas

This restored 18,000-square-meter riverside warehouse complex is now full of restaurants, shops, and cultural venues.

Mangal das Garças e Estação das Docas

You can see birds and butterflies at Mangal das Garças.'Butterflies' = borboletas.

Estação das Docas used to be old port warehouses.'Warehouse' = armazém.

Shall we have dinner by the river?'By the river' = à beira do rio.

The sunset over the river is breathtaking!'Breathtaking' = de tirar o fôlego.

A chuva das duas

It rains hard almost every afternoon, at nearly the same time.'Almost every' = quase todo.

Tacacá e o jambu

Marajó e os búfalos

A cidade das mangueiras
