Recife Antigo e as pontes

Recife has more than 100 bridges!'Bridge' = ponte.

Let's cross this bridge to get downtown.'Cross' = atravessar.

Boa Viagem e os tubarões

The reefs form a natural barrier along the beach.'Reef' = recife/arrecife.

The signs warn you not to swim past the reefs.'Warn' = alertar/avisar.

Stay in the shallow water, inside the reefs.'Shallow' = raso.

Be careful and stay where you can stand.'Careful' = cuidadoso.

Galo da Madrugada

It's the biggest carnival block in the world.'Carnival block' = bloco de carnaval.

The crowd fills every street downtown.'Crowd' = multidão.

It starts at sunrise, not at night.'At sunrise' = ao nascer do sol.

Two million people show up for this.'Show up' = aparecer/comparecer.

Bolo de rolo e tapioca

It's a rolled cake with very thin layers of guava.'Rolled' = enrolado.

Tapioca is made from cassava starch.'Cassava' = mandioca.

A good bolo de rolo has more than twenty layers.'Layer' = camada.

You can have it sweet or savory.'Savory' = salgado.
